“Repetitious Behaviours (Stims) are Bad and Should Be Stopped”

Repetitious rituals and behaviours can interrupt learning and socialization. Main stream treatments push the idea that these behaviours must be stopped at all costs – and that they are maladaptive. But is this effective or the best idea? There are other concepts, like starting with acceptance and ‘Joining” them. Some say the behaviours serve a purpose or have underlying causes that could be addressed. What is your opinion?
